See your priceLength × width × thickness, all in feet, divided by 27. A 4″ slab is 0.333 ft thick. So a 20×30 slab at 4″ is 20 × 30 × 0.333 = 200 cu ft ÷ 27 = 7.4 cubic yards. Add 5 to 10% waste and order 8.
5% on a well-prepared slab over compacted gravel with tight forms. 10% on footings, uneven subgrade, or anywhere the forms might bulge. Ready-mix sells in quarter-yard increments, and short-loading a pour costs far more than the extra yard.
Wall length in inches ÷ on-center spacing, plus one for the end. A 40 ft wall at 16″ OC is 480 ÷ 16 = 30, +1 = 31 studs. Then add 2 per corner and 2 to 3 per opening for kings and jacks, plus headers.
A square is 100 sq ft. Roof area is footprint × pitch factor: 6/12 is 1.118, 8/12 is 1.202, 12/12 is 1.414. Architectural shingles run 3 bundles per square. Add 10% for hips, valleys and starter.
NEC 220.12 sets general lighting load at 3 VA per sq ft for dwellings. A 2,400 sq ft house is 7,200 VA ÷ 120 V = 60 A, so four 15 A general lighting circuits minimum. Then the NEC requires at least two 20 A small-appliance circuits, one 20 A laundry, one 20 A bathroom, plus dedicated circuits for fixed appliances.
